Daily Cleaning Hacks
Cleaning at least a little bit every day is a hack in itself. Cleaning is always the hardest when it has been a long time since the last clean. One of the best hacks I started to implement into my daily routine was to tidy up my main living areas before bed.
I usually focus on the kitchen, living room & bedroom for small daily tasks that make my house feel clean regularly.
Kitchen- I used to feel like no matter what I did, my kitchen never felt clean. When I really looked into my cleaning habits, I realized that I was cleaning at extremely random times and not sticking to a schedule. There are a few things I now do daily that help make the space feel clean more often than not.
- Load the dishwasher
- Wipe down the counters
- Vacuum or sweep the floors
It may sound like a lot, but it usually only takes 10 to 15 minutes at the end of the day and no matter what I wake up to a clean kitchen which is the absolute best feeling. This way, when it comes to the weekend, we only have to focus on things like cleaning/organizing the fridge and mopping the floors.
Living Room- Our living room is pretty much our highest traffic area. Between the two of us and our dog, it never felt clean. In reality, there were just a few things I started doing daily that really changed the game.
- Pick up dog toys
- Vacuum the floor
- Fold blankets and fix throw pillows
- Tidy the coffee table & end tables
Once again, this process is super quick and I do it on my way to bed. It is so nice coming down in the morning to no mess or clutter.
Bedroom- Thankfully we do not spend a lot of time in our bedroom but there are a couple things that tend to get messy throughout the week. There are only three things I do daily to keep the space clean.
- Make the bed
- Put all dirty clothes in the hamper
- Clear off the nightstands
Thankfully I don’t feel the need to vacuum this space daily, so those few tidying steps really keep the space looking fresh.
My all time favorite product when it comes to daily maintenance is my Dyson. Yes it’s still vacuuming, but its so lightweight and has so much power that I can vacuum any room in pretty much three minutes.
And remember, I’m not talking about a deep clean where I’m moving furniture, I just do a quick pass through so it looks tidy!
Deep Cleaning Hacks
One of my favorite hacks I learned on TikTok was to make sure you are stocked with the basic cleaning products. Out of all of the videos I watched, the main basic items every home owner should have are below. These are staples I now have to keep stocked no matter what.
- Bleach or Clorox – great for toilets & showers
- Glass Cleaner – amazing for windows & mirrors
- Dish soap – this can legitimately be used anywhere but I love it for the fridge, sink, shower and more
- Fabuloso – great for the bathroom & floors
- A multipurpose or multi-surface cleaner – my go-to for counter tops, stove top & fridge
- A duster – legitimately any surface that attracts dust including baseboards
Here is a link to the blog post I wrote about my specific cleaning product recommendations!
The majority of these products can be used in all of the rooms in your house. This way you don’t have to have a million different products so it helps you stay organized and cuts down on storage space.
Unusual Cleaning Hacks
Not every cleaning hack I’ve learned is a no brainer. And actually, some of the more unusual ones are the best ones!
Here are some that I’ve learned and implemented that are just so, so good. Thank you, TikTok!
- Clean your shower while you are in it
- Dish soap is a great option for maintenance shower cleans. Grab a dollar store brush that contains the dish soap in the handle. Leave it in your shower so that you can grab it at the beginning or end of your shower and give the walls a quick wash and rinse!
- Use a Swiffer sweeping cloth to dust down your toilet before sanitizing it
- These cloths will grab more dust than a paper towel so that when you are ready to spray the product of your choice, you aren’t just pushing dust and dirt around.
- Pro tip – you can get ones that are Gain scented and omg they smell amazing!
- Vacuum your cook top before cleaning with product
- If you have a ton of spices, crumbs or dried food on your stove top, instead of trying to use a paper towel or sponge to remove everything, use a handheld vacuum or the hose of your vacuum to remove everything and then wipe the surface down with a multipurpose cleaner.
- Use dyer sheets to dust your blinds
- Dryer sheets are anti-static and are amazing for removing dust build up on your blinds. And bonus – they smell amazing as well!
- Use a mixture of water and fabric softener on a microfiber towel to dust your baseboards
- Not only does it smell so, so good but the fabric softener makes it easier for the dust to be removed in the future!
Professional Cleaning Hacks
There are some rules you should always be following when it comes to cleaning. These rules help you clean more efficiently so you are working smarter, not harder. And trust me, cleaning is hard enough as it is, so every tip helps!
- ALWAYS clean top to bottom – this means when you are dusting or wiping surfaces down, you always start with your ceilings, ceiling fans, light fixtures, mounted TVs, kitchen cabinets, etc. This ensures that you are never cleaning a surface and then covering it with dust while you clean something above it. Floors always come last!
- When cleaning a surface, remove everything (and I mean everything). It seems like a lot of work up front but trust me. If you always remove the items on the surface and wipe under them then it will always be a quick process. If you let the dust and dirt under said items build up, it will take a lot longer to clean when you finally get around to it.
- Start with the dry processes first, followed by the wet processes. For example, always dust before you polish or sweep before you mop. This way you are reducing the amount of dirt and debris that can stick to wet surfaces while you are cleaning.
- Be smart with your time management! If there are certain products that need to sit or items that need to soak, make sure you get those processes going so you can work on something else in the meantime. Another good example if having your laundry running while you are completing other tasks.
These are some basic rules that all of the housecleaners I follow utilize and the results are always so fun to watch. Try them yourself and you’ll be feeling like a professional cleaner in no time 🙂
