I am here to help make the spaces and items you reach for the most as organized as possible. There is nothing more frustrating than searching through drawers while you’re trying to get dinner on the table.
If you haven’t already tackled these areas its probably because it seems overwhelming (which it can be). But with these resources you can turn it into a very satisfying project that will leave you feeling accomplished and satisfied.
This post is all about kitchen organization hacks!
1. Kitchen Utensil Drawer Organization
Think about how many different types of cooking utensils the average person has in their kitchen. I know personally I have utensils in up to four spaces at any given time. You could argue these are the most reached for items when cooking a meal.
The first step to take when organizing any space is to take out all of the items in one category, declutter then organize. For me, this would mean emptying all four spaces and laying everything out so that I can see what I have.
This is a good time to go through what you have and see if there are any items you no longer reach for. Whether they aren’t useful to you, you have multiples or they need to be tossed, identify those items first. Then you can determine if they are worth donating or if they need to be tossed.
Once you know what you are keeping, you can start pairing like items together. Separate your every day flatware, serving utensils, cooking utensils, special occasion utensils, etc. into various categories. Now look at the space you have available and see which spots makes the most sense for each category.
Now you can get to organizing! If you are keeping any items on the counter, you can use an aesthetically pleasing utensil holder. This is my go-to move. It makes cooking utensils easy to reach for and you can get it by your stove without the area looking messy.
Every day flatware can go in your most reached for drawer. I highly recommend using a utensil organizer for this area. This organizer from Amazon is highly rated and a great price. I have a similar one that I swear by. It makes it very easy for you to see what you have and to keep each kind of item in its own spot.
In the next space I would keep the utensils you use less frequently. Whether they are cooking utensils or services utensils, you can use these drawer separators to keep me them neat.
2. Spice Cabinet Organization
Oh spices, we love them and hate them all at the same time. Although they’re necessary to making every meal delicious, they can be hard to keep organized. How you choose to organize them will fully depend on the space you have available. However, there are a number of hacks you can use to best utilize whatever space you have.
One organization hack is relocating all of your different spices to uniform spice containers. There are a ton of different options on Amazon that are very affordable. This allows you to maximize your space and gives you that uniform look that is oh so satisfying. Most of the options you can purchase from come with nice labels so you always know what you are reaching for!
Another kitchen organization hack is to keep your most used spices in the most accessible places. Move the ones you reach for less to the back or to a higher shelf.
As mentioned above, while making this transition you can utilize the time to go through what you have and determine if there is anything you can get rid of so that you have more space for placing the spices you are keeping.
It may be a decent amount of work up front but your future self will thank your present self the next time you go into the kitchen to cook your favorite meal.
3. Water Bottles & Tumblers Organization
In the last few years with water tumblers becoming a huge trend (as they should be) storing them has become harder than ever. A problem I run into a lot of the time is that if I keep the lids with the tumbler or water bottle, my cabinets are not tall enough. A theme in this post is that you have to take a look at your space and determine the best way to utilize it.
Although this will vary from person to person, anyone can look at their current set up and tell if what they’re doing is working for them or not. Sometimes I find myself opening the cabinet and two separate drawers for my tumbler, lid and straw before I can even start making my drink.
This water bottle rack is an amazing solution. You can keep your water bottle/tumbler with its lid and you can stack vertically which allows you to store more in one space than you could before!
Another hack is to only keep the number of items in a certain category that you know you can fit in its allotted space. Most of the time people struggle to stay organized, they have far too many items than they can store. Pull everything you have out and see if there is anything you can donate, recycle or throw away so you can keep your space tidy!
4. Junk Drawer Organization
If you don’t have a junk drawer somewhere in your kitchen, tell me your secret. I not only have one, but two of them and could probably use a third. However, I am not a hater of the junk drawer. I think there are plenty of things that make sense to keep in an area like this in everyone’s home.
The hard part (as always) is keeping it from getting cluttered and not being able to find what you are looking for. The items that come to mind when thinking about a junk drawer are pens, pencils, batteries, keychains, essential oils, scissors, chip clips, crazy glue, etc. And there are probably multiples of each item.
For these areas I highly recommend small plastic drawer organizers from Target, Amazon or even the Dollar Store. They are very inexpensive (which we love for spaces like this) but make a world of a difference. And they are truly helpful in almost any kind of drawer.
They simply help you group like items together so when you are reaching for something, you know where to find it!
5. Tupperware Organization
When it comes to Tupperware, I can guarantee I have tried every possible organization solution under the sun. There is nothing more frustrating than not being able to find the lid for a container you are trying to use when cleaning up dinner or packing your lunch.
Whether you keep your lids with the container or not is entirely up to you. For most people, storage constraints come into play when organizing. Keeping them separate it the best way to utilize the space you have.
The most important step when it comes to this process is making sure you have a match for every set you are deciding to keep. This will cut down on the amount of time you spend looking for the correct lid.
Keep like containers together based on shape and material (glass, plastic, silicone, etc.) Then simply organize your lids in a file-like way starting with your small lids and working towards your largest ones. This lid organizer from Amazon looks amazing if you think it would be helpful but it is certainly not necessary for keeping the space organized.
