I've been doing my own laundry since I was honestly 9 years old. Although I was taught well, there are definitely some hacks that I've learned throughout the years that have been super helpful.
Laundry is one of those things that most people don't love doing but that everyone has to do. Although I personally hate it, I also know that if I have to do it, I want to do it the best way I can.

These hacks are super simple but really do make a difference.

Laundry Hacks TikTok
Here are the best laundry hacks I learned on TikTok!
Dryer balls with essential oils
- If you haven't switched from dyer sheets to dyer balls you have to try it. Not only are the designed to help the load dry faster, but you can also add some essential oil to each of the balls so you don't miss out on your clothing smelling fresh!
Keep a trashcan near your dryer
- You have to make sure you're keeping your lint trap clean. Instead of emptying it and tossing the lint either on top of your dryer or in a laundry basket, set up a permanent trash can next to the dyer. If you don't have room for a full size trash can, there are magnetic ones you can add to your dryer!
Toss detergent cup in with wash
- This seems like a given but I was shocked at how many people didn't think to do this naturally. If you're a liquid detergent person, go ahead and throw the cap of your detergent in with your clothes once you have emptied it into the machine. It's always clean and ready for the next load. Just avoid putting it in your dryer if you can!
White vinegar for towels
- Thanks to TikTok I realized I was washing my towels all wrong (which is hilarious because it seems so simple). One of the best hacks I learned was to avoid fabric softener on towels. It is waxy and makes your towels less absorbent over time. Secondly, use white vinegar in your towel load to deodorize them and keep them nice and fluffy. I also prefer to wash them on warm. You'll be shocked at the difference!
Tips to Remember
Mistakes to avoid
- Some of these seem straight forward but they're also things I'm not always thinking about until it's too late
- Zippers should be zipped and fastens should be fastened to avoid them catching on or tearing any delicate pieces
- Buttons should be unbuttoned so the agitation doesn't rip the threads
Helpful Products
Fold up drying rack
- If you don't have a super fancy laundry room, you need a fold up drying rack. They hold so much and allow your clothes to air dry quickly and effectively.
Lint remover
- I've seen this pill remover all over TikTok. Now spoiler alert, I used to work at a dry cleaners so I had seen it before, but I didn't realize how effective they actually are! They remove lint and pills so quickly without doing any damage to your item.
Laundry Tips for White Clothes
Free & Clear Detergent
- I'm so glad most brands have come out with a free and clear version of laundry detergent. Not only is it potentially better from a chemical perspective, I personally cannot stand when blue detergent stains my white. There's truly no need for the dyed detergent and it's overall better for sensitive skin!
Oxi Clean
- If you're sleeping on Oxi Clean, here's your sign to start using it with your laundry. My parents always used it but for some reason I never used it as an adult. Let me tell you that this stuff is pure magic. I don't know how, but I truly get stains on everything. There is nothing that Oxi Clean can't get out.
Laundry Hacks 2021
Hand Steamer
- If you still use and iron and ironing board, all the power to you. However, I haven't used an iron in years. I hand steam everything and will never go back! Pro tip is to drop some essential oils in the water before you steam to make your clothes smell extra fresh.
Use mesh bags for bras and other loose items
- There is nothing more frustrating than having a bra strap wrapped around clothing that is left super stretched out. I was aware of the mesh bags for these types of garments but I love the idea of keeping one in my hamper so I can put my bras right in it and not have to sort through the laundry later.
I'm always looking for ways to do things as efficiently and effectively as possible (including laundry).
It's always mind blowning when I come across these tips and tricks that I actually get excited to share them.
Comment below if this is your first time hearing of any of these tips or share some tips that you think could be helpful that I didn't mention!
