Looking for macrame decor ideas to turn one of your spaces into a boho dream?! These affordable options will help transform your space into the relaxing and carefree vibe you’ve been hoping for!
Let’s face it, the boho style is making a huge comeback! If you’re anything like me, you have at least one spot in your home that is either fully bohemian inspired or has boho accents sprinkled into another style.
The laidback and unstructured feeling of boho decor makes for an extremely homey feel regardless of what room you incorporate it into.
Macrame is a great way to achieve this vibe for an affordable price! And if you’re super crafty, these ideas would make for great DIY projects.
This post will give you ideas for different types of decor that you can incorporate into any room in your home.
This post is all about macrame decor!
Macrame Decor Wall
Wall hangings are a great place to start if you are exploring incorporating macrame into your home. They are also extremely versatile. You can use them as a backdrop for pictures or shelving but you can also use them on their own.
One of my favorite ways to style a wall hanging is by using small wooden close pins to hang pictures on the different strands.
Below are some examples of different wall hangings you could use!
This is one of the first pieces I purchased because I had a blank wall spot in my bedroom where I knew I wanted to hang some photos but also wanted to achieve that boho vibe. I absolutely loved it so I started purchasing other items to incorporate in other rooms.
Here is an example of a wall hanging that looks amazing on its own! However, don’t feel like every piece has to have another element to it for it to look amazing.
The final way I love to style a wall hanging is by either purchasing one with a shelf or by DIYing a shelf using the strings on the hanging. Both are great options but below is an affordable one off Amazon. A macrame shelf with succulents on it is one of my go-tos.
The braids on this one are to die for. This would be beautiful in literally any room in your home. And you can switch out the decor on the shelf for any season!
Macrame Decor Living Room
When it comes to hanging decor in your living room, I like to stick to a few different areas.
- Above the couch
- Over the mantle
- In the corners
Obviously every living room layout is different, but these are good places to start if you are decorating a new room or making over a room you had previously decorated.
These larger hangings would be absolutely beautiful above your couch or mantle.
These are areas I would personally avoid doing any pictures or shelving on but you can totally decide for yourself depending on the vibe you are going for. I just personally think these pieces speak for themselves!
Having a simple/neutral piece is great if you have other colorful accents in the room you are working on. However, There are certainly options that will help you add a pop of color if you need it. These pieces are certainly eye catching!
I absolutely love the neutrality of this one while also having some color. This would be stunning above your mantle. This would also be a great DIY project (hint hint).
Ok this one is stunning. The tie-dyed blue in this piece is everything. This would look great above a couch or honestly above your bed!
If you already have wall art above your couch or have your TV mounted above your mantle, the corners of the room are a great place to add some macrame decor.
The first option is to use macrame hanging planters! I am in love with these because it introduces some greenery into the space which further fulfills those boho dreams.
I love Amazon for these because you can get them in sets and either use them in a number of rooms in your house or you can use them in multiple corners in the same room.
Another option for the corners of the room is simple decorative hangings with gold or wooden elements. You can hang them right from the ceiling which helps draw the eye up when you enter a room.
Macrame Bedroom Decor
If you are looking to turn your bedroom into a boho oasis, these pieces are for you. I love nothing more than incorporating macrame into my bedroom because it makes the space so warm and relaxing. A great place to start with this is above or behind your bed.
You can also string lights on these pieces to give them an even cozier look! Amazon would be a great place to get string lights to attach or some of the pieces they sell come with lights on them.
Like I’m sorry… How stinking cozy and cute would this look?!
Although hanging a larger piece above your bed would look amazing, truly any of the options in this post would look amazing in your bedroom. You can look at the space and see where you might want to hang certain items.
I personally love having plants in my bedroom so the planters would be a great idea too.
Not totally sold on hanging the planters in the corners of your room? This is a great alternative! I love how you could hang this next to your bed and style the shelves with plants/knick knacks. This would be adorable in a dorm room as well!
Macrame Design Ideas
Ok so up until this point we have covered options that would look amazing in your living room, bedroom, bathroom, home office, etc. Here are some additional pieces we haven’t covered. I have incorporated some into my home and would repurchase in a heartbeat.
This table runner is perfect for a kitchen or dining room table. It can be styled for literally any season while still keeping the boho style for your kitchen or dining room.
Instead of using a wall hanging for pictures, I love the idea of having this by your front or side door and keeping your mail in it. It keeps it off of surfaces like your kitchen or entryway table and is a quick drop spot.
This might need to be one of my next purchases. How stinking cute! I love the idea of a hanging spot for your fruit or veggies because I am the queen of having clear countertops.
How perfect would this be in a boho styled bathroom?! I love the simplicity of it.
If you have made it this far, you have seen a number of examples of how you can start to include some boho pieces into frankly any home in your house, apartment or dorm room.
What I love the most about the majority of these pieces is how versatile they all can be. A lot of them are starter pieces that you can then turn into other more inclusive decor items.
There are so many benefits to not necessarily going full bohemian style in your home (unless that is your goal) but layering these pieces into the style that you may already have.
I believe any of these pieces help brighten and neutralize a space while also achieving comfort and relaxation. And the fact that you can add greenery or lights to almost any of them is a huge win.
The best part about all of them is that are affordable and available on Amazon which means you can get them super quick! Who doesn’t love that.
If you are new to macrame, I believe it is only a matter of time before you have an item or two in every room!
